This was my first TV show, not knowing we were going to lip sync, I was very disappointed that we were not going to play live. Los Angeles 1972
Emry Thomas and the Watsonian Institute featuring Johnny Watson on Soul Train, 1977. Before there was Uptown Funk there was the Institute.
Booty Ooty was written by "Guitar" to perform with the Institute, on this night my last preformance with Watson, "Guitar" came to me and said "E.T. I am tired of you Motherf__ker sounding better than me." I was not mature enough to tell my boss he was full of it.
Guy King, Deb Ryder, Emry Thomas,Mike Merritt, and Tony Llorens Live July 2018
My last TV show with Watson. Although he was doing most of the writing and stood to gain the most from our success. Watson's ego would not let him put the Institute or any other acts before himself. He went to A&M records alone and blew it, a million dollar deal.

The Institute was in my opinion the greatest band Watson ever had. The Institute my Band was the only band that sounded like Watson’s records. Reason being my band
had ET the drummer. Remember you can not fake the FUNK.
